The dance crew that I hang out with consists mostly of tangueras. So when we go to milongas we usually go as a pack of women. There is an advantage to this - - you aren't tied to exclusively dancing with partner that came with you. You're free to dance with anyone in the room at any time. The possibilities are endless! However, you also have the possibility that you could sit all night long or find yourself dancing with someone that you really don't enjoy.

On the flip side.... If you bring a partner to a milonga you know the person that you're going to dance with and you have the built in security of knowing that at any point in the evening you can dance with your date. The downside to this is that you may not be as free to dance with anyone in the room.

I've had both experiences - - going to a milonga without a partner and going to a milonga with a partner. Both situations have their pluses and minuses...

So here's the Poll of the Week question...

Which do you prefer - going to milongas without partners or bringing a partner with you?

Ciao,
Pantina

I prefer bringing a partner, not for the security—in fact, we both dance mostly with other people—but because a milonga doesn't feel complete without a couple of sets with my boyfriend. I don't have as much fun if he isn't there.

I know that it wouldn't be the same if we were in BsAs, but here we have no trouble dancing with other people, even when we arrive together. (This is probably also because we both danced before becoming a couple, so we're both used to dancing with many different people.)
